Horse riding lessons and guided rides through coconut groves, fields, lakesides and forest paths on our natural farm

Horse Riding in Southern Sri Lanka

Free-moving horses, real riding

Our horses are not led or pulled on ropes.

You ride independently, guided by a qualified instructor trained in the UK and New Zealand, with a focus on balance, confidence, and calm communication.

Quiet landscapes, far from crowds

Riding takes place mostly on our private 50-acre farm — through coconut groves, lakesides, open paddy fields, and shaded forest trails, with space, privacy, and time to slow down.

A working farm, not a tourist attraction

MOZO is a free-range, organic farm where horses live in large paddocks, forest-raised pigs roam under trees, and friendly goats share the land.

Meals are prepared from what we grow and source locally.

A different way to experience horses in Sri Lanka

Horse riding at MOZO is not designed as a quick activity or a checklist experience.

It’s an invitation to slow down, spend time with animals, and move through the landscape at a natural pace.

Our rides take place on a working farm in southern Sri Lanka, where horses live outdoors in large paddocks, grazing, moving, and resting as they choose. Before riding, you’ll meet your horse on the ground — grooming, preparing the equipment together, and getting a sense of how he responds and communicates. This time is unhurried, and just as important as the ride itself.

Riding that feels real

When you ride, the horse moves freely.

We don’t lead horses on ropes or follow fixed loops behind another rider. You’ll ride independently, with guidance from an instructor who focuses on balance, awareness, and quiet communication rather than commands or force.

Depending on your experience and the conditions on the day, riding may include walking, trotting, or cantering in open spaces. More experienced riders may work on simple schooling exercises, while beginners are supported step by step to feel comfortable and confident in the saddle.

The emphasis is not on speed or distance, but on feeling how the horse moves beneath you — and learning to move with him.

Space, shade, and quiet landscapes

Much of the riding takes place on our own private land, spread across coconut groves, lakesides, open paddy fields, and forest paths.

You’ll pass through shaded areas, open stretches, and quiet corners where village life continues at its own rhythm — a farmer in the field, birds lifting from the water, the sound of wind moving through the trees.

We deliberately avoid busy roads and crowded routes. The experience is shaped by space, privacy, and the ability to pause — to let horses graze, rest, or simply stand and take in the surroundings.

A working farm, shared honestly

MOZO is first and foremost a farm.

Horses are part of a wider ecosystem that includes forest-raised pigs, goats, ducks, coconut trees, and food gardens. The way we farm informs everything else we do — including how we host visitors.

Meals served after rides are prepared from local ingredients, often using produce from the farm itself or nearby suppliers. The food is simple, nourishing, and rooted in the region — not styled or staged, but shared as part of the day.

Guests are welcome to spend time on the farm before or after their ride: watching the animals, taking photos, resting in shaded spots, or simply being present.
